Adults who need assistance with basic literacy skills are matched with tutors for one-to-one instruction. Recent immigrants who need help learning English, even if you hold advanced degrees from your native country, can also call to arrange for tutoring. There is no charge for the service.

A program of the State University of New York, adults can obtain help with reading and writing, learning English as a second language as well as preparation for the GED (high school equivalency examination). Financial eligibility is required for these free services.

The English Language Institute (ELI) is an intensive pre-college ESL Program offered through the College's Continuing Education Program. It has been specially designed to help those who plan on attending college improve overall language proficiency in English.

English as a Second Language Program
The English as a Second Language Program has two levels of instruction,
intermediate and advanced.  Students are placed in one of these levels on the basis of their placement test results. To enter the ESL Program, students must have a basic knowledge of the English language.
