The Advent of Film Noir: Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Double Indemnity with Richard Knox

Film historians view Billy Wilder’s 1944 classic Double Indemnity as ground-breaking on many fronts. In addition to challenging Hollywood’s production code by converting James M. Cain’s very dark novella into cinema, Wilder established a template for many of the “film noir” works that followed including The Big Sleep and Night and the City. During this program we will have an opportunity to screen highlights from the film as well as examine the true murder case that inspired it.
