Sidney Poitier is the first African-American to win the Academy Award as Best Actor.  He rose from an impoverished upbringing in the Bahamas to a successful performer.  His diplomatic service includes being Bahamian ambassador to Japan and UNESCO. Poitier was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II and is a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. As an actor he was given an Honorary Academy Award in recognition of his "remarkable accomplishments as an artist and as a human being.”  Join Marc for a celebratory look at Sidney Poitier’s life.
