Gothic Architecture: with Professor Thomas Germano

Abbot Suger (c 1081-1151) is credited with inventing Gothic architecture with a belief that art was central to a religious experience. He renovated the eastern end of his church, the Abbey of Saint-Denis, in the new Gothic style. Gothic cathedrals in Paris (Notre-Dame), Soissons, Chartres, Bourges, Reims and Amiens followed in a move towards greater height, light and volume.  Professor Germano will present a visual lecture discussing Gothic architecture with an emphasis on the Cathedral of Notre-Dame.
