Program Description

Description

Until August 2020 NYC had only five public art works that represented historic women. There are, however, many sculptures which were created by female artists, starting with Emma Stebbins’ Angel of the Waters in Central Park. During the nineteenth  century mostly upper class women received artistic training and won public commissions. Female artists were recruited for the World’s Fairs and gained visibility in modern times, adding important figurative and abstract works to our urban fabric. Some of these artists include Anne Huntington, Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, Marisol and Louise Nevelson. Sylvia will show us many sculptures hidden in New York City.

Please note there is no need to register more than once. An email with the Zoom information will be sent separately.
